Sky News understands that British tech billionaire Mike Lynch is missing after his yacht sank off the coast of Sicily.

One person has died and six others are missing after a UK-flagged superyacht named Bayesian sank during a storm off the coast of Sicily.

Sky News has also learned that the yacht is owned by Dr. Lynch's family.

This incident comes just weeks after Dr. Lynch, 59, was acquitted of all charges by a US jury in June, following a high-profile fraud case concerning the 2011 sale of his software company Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard (HP).

Politicians and business leaders strongly opposed his extradition to the US, arguing that any case should be tried in the UK since Autonomy was a UK-listed, UK-regulated, and UK-audited company.

Mike Lynch is a British entrepreneur and mathematician renowned for founding the software company Autonomy, which was sold to Hewlett-Packard (HP) in 2011. Often referred to as the UK's first tech billionaire, Lynch has been a prominent figure in the tech industry. His career has also included legal battles, including a high-profile fraud case related to the Autonomy sale.

Dr. Lynch, who was born in Ilford, is the son of a firefighter from County Cork and a nurse from County Tipperary in Ireland.

In 2023, the Sunday Times Rich List estimated the combined wealth of Mike Lynch and his wife, Angela Bacares, at £852 million.
